Health experts of Russia said wearing masks and gloves is not only a futile measure to prevent coronavirus infection, but it can also help spread the disease. This was reported in a press release on MedicalXpress.
According to experts, masks give a false sense of security. Many who wear them do not follow simple recommendations: wash their hands before use, make sure that the mask tightly covers your face, and do not touch it with your hands. People often correct them, which increases the risk of infection. Gloves will also not be effective if you touch your face; in addition, those who wear them are less likely to wash their hands.
It is known that people touch their faces on average 20 times per hour. Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted through close contacts, getting on the mucous membrane of the nose, eyes and ears.
According to the latest data, 182.4 thousand people became infected with the coronavirus worldwide, more than 7.1 thousand died, and 79.4 thousand were cured. The outbreak began in late December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
